As M:UC is run by volunteers, we almost make no costs. However, we do make some costs, such as:
- our location (the amazing Atelier d'Innovation Sociale),
- our website (designed and maintained by our favorite IT specialist EVoK Web),
- compensation for guest speakers.
We can operate due to a grant from the Ottawa Community Foundation, and training we received from the Ottawa Coalition To End Violence Against Women. Neither are in any way responsible for the work that M:UC does, but M:UC owes both organization a great deal of gratitude.
Masculinity: Under Construction is funded by the Ottawa Community Foundation.
Masculinity: Under Construction exists, because of OCTEVAW. In 2013, a bunch of guys started volunteering for OCTEVAW, and received training on how to talk with young guys about masculinity and gender-based violence. These volunteers (spoiler, that is us) benefitted greatly from those conversations and the training. When this program ended, these volunteers founded M:UC. The work of M:UC is strongly based in what we learned from OCTEVAW, and we are very grateful!
